Phenocogramus
Interruptus is an African Tetra, from the Congo basin in Central Africa.
Especially when lit from the front, this beautiful fish shows off all the colors
of the spectrum. The males of the species (shown above) develop long
flowing tail fins. Females are smaller, with less vivid colors and do not
grow the extensive tail fins that the males do. P. interruptus needs
a large aquarium with areas of dense vegetation, plenty of free swimming space,
and a dark bed. The water should be slightly acid and not too hard-- which
is typical of most planted tanks. This is a well behaved fish that rarely if
ever bothers its tank mates. Furthermore, these fish do not disturb
plants. They are an excellent inhabitants for heavily planted aquariums.
Bloodworms, brine shrimp as well as dried food are gobbled up eagerly.
