Symphysodon hyprid Discus, is truly an awesome species.  I do not think I have seen a more elegant, attractive freshwater aquarium fish.  I am still learning about this fish.  I have had these two, which are a mated pair, in my tank for only six weeks.  Nevertheless, they have spawned on four separate occasions in that time frame!  The Discus is a cichlid.  They are found in the Amazon River and its primary tributaries.  Although I have heard it said that Discus require high temperature tanks, and that they do not do well in a community tank, this mated pair has done well in a tank with over 100 fishes in it, and at a temperature that ranges from 77 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.  I have found that the larger Discus eats only blood worms; the other smaller Discus will eat flaked food and frozen brine shirmp as well.  These two have laid eggs four times, always on a clean flat place in the aquarium.  The latest location was on top of some drift wood.  The eggs never hatched; perhaps because water conditions are not optimal, or perhaps because my other fish ate them first!

What a pleasure to keep these fish!  Thanks Tom!
